Building On Family Tradition
After serving as an electronic technician in the military, Carl Orgeron established A-1 the day after his first son, Ryan, was born in 1973. Although it was originally established as a residential electrical company, it quickly expanded and changed into the commercial contractor that it is today. Ryan grew up in the industry, working at A-1 in the summers and majored in Electrical Engineering at Louisiana State University. After earning his engineering license and completing a four-year internship at Keystone Engineering, Ryan joined the A-1 company with his father and established Drake Engineering, a partner-company, enabling the teams to work together on design-build projects.
Carl retired in 2009, leaving Ryan to carry on his legacy—and carry it he did. Within five years, the company reached $15 million in revenue, and it has only continued to prosper as a premier contractor in the New Orleans area. With a license to operate in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Florida and Alabama, we see nothing but growth on the horizon.

Safety
Safety isn’t just something we talk about; it’s something that’s ingrained in every single thing that we do. In fact, we currently hold a workers’ compensation EMR rate of .80. We’ve been able to achieve this accomplishment through our expansive internal and external efforts.
A third-party safety consultant, Smart Safety, visits our job sites unannounced in order to keep us accountable at all times. They also act as a resource so that our team members can anonymously report any sort of safety concern to be addressed directly with our management team. Our goal is to create a safe space for our crew, clients and community at all times.
Internally, we’ve also established our own safety program, which is getting bigger and better every day. With in-house safety reps, monthly training sessions, certifications for every piece of equipment our team members use and more, we make sure that no aspect of our operation is overlooked.
